The Stonemason, A Play in Five Acts, McCarthy, Cormac
2 McCarthy, Cormac The Stonemason, A Play in Five Acts
Hopewell, NJ Ecco 1995 0880013591 / 9780880013598 First Edition/First Printing Slipcase Fine No Jacket (As Issued) Signed by Author
This copy has been SIGNED by Cormac McCarthy on the publisher's tipped-in page. "This special edition of The Stonemason is limited to three hundred and fifty boxed copies. These books are NUMBERED and SIGNED by Cormac McCarthy." This being copy #88. In the preface to Vereen Bell's The Achievement of Cormac McCarthy (1988), it was noted that paperback editions of The Orchard Keeper (1982), Outer Dark (1984), Child of God (1984), and Blood Meridian (1986) were made available through the intelligent reclamation efforts of Daniel Halpern and the Ecco Press. After achieving "overnight" success (after 25 years of writing!) with the publication of All The Pretty Horses (1992), McCarthy returned to publish The Stonemason with Ecco. This is a play, written earlier in his career, set in Louisville, Kentucky in the 1970s which traces the relationships among four generations of a black family, and the keeping and tragic breaking of traditions from son to son.

A Bigamist's Daughter/That Night/At Weddings And Wakes/Charming Billy/Child of My Heart/After This/Someone/The Ninth Hour, McDermott, Alice
3 McDermott, Alice A Bigamist's Daughter/That Night/At Weddings And Wakes/Charming Billy/Child of My Heart/After This/Someone/The Ninth Hour
New York, New York Random House/FSG 1982 First Editions/First Printings Hard Cover Fine/Near Fine Fine Signed by Author
This offering is for a complete set of Alice McDermott's eight works. All are in Fine/Near Fine condition and have been SIGNED by ALice McDermott on their respective title pages! The books are 1) "A Bigamist's Daughter" (1982) - her first book, published by Random House (all her later books were published by Farrar, Strauss & Giroux). A contemporary portrait of a new generation's search for - an avoidance of - commitment in life and love. There is a shadow (of previous laid-in newspaper clipping) between the front board and the front free endpaper. 2) "That Night" (1987) - its remarkable talent for evoking a world and its inhabitants, and its subtlety and artfulness in telling a story. A Finalist for the National Book Award, The PEN/Faulkner Award, and the Pulitzer Prize. 3) "At Weddings and Wakes" (1992) - this heartbreakingly tender, sad - and funny - book represents a new level of achievement for her. A Finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. 4) "Charming Billy" (1998) - In this, her fourth novel, she gives us the story of Billy Lynch within the matrix of a tightly knit Irish American community, in a voice that is resonant and full of deep feeling. Winner of an American Book Award and the National Book Award. 5) "Child of My Heart" (2002) - a woman recalls her fifteenth summer with the wry and bittersweet wisdom of hindsight. Nominated for the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award. 6) "After This" (2006) - Alive with the passions and trajedies of a determining era in our history, "After This" portrays the clash of traditional faith-bound life with modern freedom while also capturing the joy, sorrow, anger, and love that underpin, and undermine, what it is to be a family. Another Finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. 7) "Someone" (2013) - Scattered recollections - of a curious childhood, of adolescent sexual awakenings, of motherhood, and, finally, of old age - come together in this resonant story of an unremarkable woman's unforgettable life. Shortlisted for the National Book Crictics Circle Award. 8) "The Ninth Hour" (2017) - In Catholic Brooklyn, in the early part of the twentieth century, decorum, superstition, and shame collude to erase the man's brief existence, yet his suicide, though never spoken of, reverberates through many lives - testing the limits and the demands of love and sacrifice, of forgiveness and forgetfulness, even across multiple generations. A Finalist for the 2017 Kirkus Award. Shipping charges to be advised depending upon where they are to be sent.
